Homeschool: Wrapping Up First Grade

As I sit here typing this, my first-grader is taking here course exam for math, courtesy of the Good and Beautiful curriculum. This was our first year homeschooling, and being the excitable person that I am, we started at the very beginning of August. Thus, our homeschool year is wrapping up now, at the end of April. It was such a beautiful year, friends. I had an inkling that homeschool would be a good fit for us and boy was I right. I feel so thankful to be able to tuck the memories of this year into my heart and I feel confident that my daughter’s year was everything I hoped it would be.

For our family, taking the entire twelve weeks of summer break off would be a problem. We all crave a little structure to our day and my goal is to foster a love of learning, beyond the conventional school years. As my second oldest moves into kindergarten this summer, my plan at this point is to do three rotations of a themed learning week and three weeks off. So far I have two themed weeks planned: an in-depth study on Mars and a week-long study of famous artists. In the off-weeks, I created a Summer bingo for the girls to complete (Free to you at the bottom of this post, if you’re interested.)

I’ll do an in-depth post reviewing and detailing all the curriculum we used this past year, but for now, I’m thankful to share that we did it! First grade is (almost) in the books.

About Me

Hello friend, my name is Katie and pizza is my favorite food. Yes, I’m in my thirties and yes, I have three daughters that I’m raising and homeschooling and nagging, but I think you’d be most interested to know that I would eat pizza for every meal of every day and never complain. There was a brief time (ages 8-11) when I thought that mashed potatoes was my favorite food, but I’ve since come around. That being said, I don’t only talk about pizza. Here you will find slices of homeschooling life, home decor, cooking, musings, and an occasional funny meme. In fact, I think you will find a shocking lack of pizza content as a whole, but now you know the truth: Pizza is always close to mind.
