Putting My Hand to Cozy

There’s a rhythm to the seasons that always feels comforting to me, but winter is the one that whispers, slow down (Yes, even in Texas). The days grow shorter, the nights stretch longer, and the world outside seems to slip into a quiet hibernation. It’s in these months that my home feels like more than just a house—it becomes a refuge, a place to gather the ones I love and create warmth that chases away the chill.

Making a home cozy in the winter isn’t about perfection or Instagram-worthy aesthetics. It’s about cultivating comfort and joy, about welcoming others in and telling them, you belong here. And it’s something I’ve come to cherish more deeply as the years go by. I love the word/vibe cozy so much that I included it in the title of this here blog.

Creating a cozy home isn’t just about the physical space; it’s about the heart posture behind it. I’ve come to believe that coziness is an act of hospitality, our own way to extend the love of Christ to those around. It’s in the little things—inviting a friend over for tea, leaving a handwritten note for my husband, or simply sitting with my children as they tell me about their day.

And while I love to curate comfort in my home, with candles and blankets and firelight, I’ve learned that it doesn’t have to be perfect to be cozy. There will be crumbs on the table, piles of shoes by the door, and—on occasion—dry grass and leaves that get tracked inside. But even in the mess, there’s warmth. There’s life. And lego heads.

This winter, I hope my home will be a haven for those who walk through its doors, whether it’s family gathering for dinner, a friend stopping by for coffee, or just my little crew of loved ones sharing stories by the fire. Cozy isn’t about what you have; it’s about how you make others feel.

So here’s to the winter season—to warm blankets, glowing lights, and the sound of laughter filling the spaces where cold and silence could have been. Here’s to slowing down, savoring the small moments, and finding joy in the simple act of welcoming others in.

And most of all, here’s to the homes we create—not just with walls and furniture, but with love and care and a spirit of togetherness that no winter chill can ever dim. May be never take them for granted.

About Me

Hello friend, my name is Katie and pizza is my favorite food. Yes, I’m in my thirties and yes, I have three daughters that I’m raising and homeschooling and nagging, but I think you’d be most interested to know that I would eat pizza for every meal of every day and never complain. There was a brief time (ages 8-11) when I thought that mashed potatoes was my favorite food, but I’ve since come around. That being said, I don’t only talk about pizza. Here you will find slices of homeschooling life, home decor, cooking, musings, and an occasional funny meme. In fact, I think you will find a shocking lack of pizza content as a whole, but now you know the truth: Pizza is always close to mind.
