It’s the end of May already, and the garden is doing well. We have had triple-digit temperatures already and lots of rainy days. It’s been humid some days and windy/dry other days. My front garden (affectionately called the cottage garden) is coming along, but still not quite where I want it to be. I know cottage gardens take years to establish, so I’m happy to be patient in that. By the way, we have officially been in our house one year! I still pinch myself. The coleus bolted in the heat and I’m inclined to leave it as the flowers seem to be a favorite of pollinators. The apple trees blossomed, but as they are only in their second year, I pinched them all off. We have had a few strawberries but the roly-polys have enjoyed more than us. The peas have been a real champion this spring, especially for the kids (why yes, you CAN eat as many peas as you want!) They’re about to come out to make way for cucumbers. The flower have been stunning this spring and I’ve especially loved all the volunteer zinnias in the back fairy garden patch. I got a lovely new climbing rose for Mother’s Day: a Red Eden. It has a fantastic smell and I can’t wait to plant it when the weather is a little better and I find the energy to dig a big hole. Some new favorites this spring have been gomphrena and balloon flower, both supposed to thrive in Texas heat. I’ll keep you updated!
