🍓 The Great Smoothie Contest: A Secret Ingredient Showdown! 🍌

Need a fun and low-mess activity for kids that sparks creativity and ends in a tasty treat? We recently hosted a smoothie making contest with my kids and a friend and it was an absolute hit.

Each child got to create their own custom smoothie using this simple, colorful menu of pre-selected ingredients. I made their smoothies one at a time in secret while the others waited in suspense. Once all smoothies were made, we sampled each one, voted for our favorites, and laughed over the hilarious smoothie names they came up with.

Here’s the menu we used:

🧾 Smoothie Recipe Menu
Each child picked one item from each category:

  • Base: apple juice | milk | water
  • Fruits: banana | strawberry | blueberry | raspberry
  • Veggies: spinach | cucumber
  • Sweet: honey | maple syrup
  • Add-ins: peanut butter | yogurt | chocolate syrup | cinnamon

Then they named their smoothie creation, because what’s a secret recipe without a legendary name?

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 How It Worked:

  • I made each smoothie out of sight so no one could copy anyone else’s combo.
  • Everyone got to taste a little of each smoothie in tiny sample cups.
  • We voted for our fave flavor and the winner was the Smoothie Queen!

📝 Why We Loved It:

  • No screen time involved
  • Simple ingredients we already had
  • Kids got to experiment and be silly
  • Built-in snack time, plus they were amazed at how adding veggies to their smoothies had really no impact on yumminess.

If you’d like to try it yourself, feel free to download my smoothie printable below (or just recreate it based on the list above). It’s a great rainy day or summer boredom-buster, and I promise you’ll be surprised by what combinations actually work!

About Me

Hello friend, my name is Katie and pizza is my favorite food. Yes, I’m in my thirties and yes, I have three daughters that I’m raising and homeschooling and nagging, but I think you’d be most interested to know that I would eat pizza for every meal of every day and never complain. There was a brief time (ages 8-11) when I thought that mashed potatoes was my favorite food, but I’ve since come around. That being said, I don’t only talk about pizza. Here you will find slices of homeschooling life, home decor, cooking, musings, and an occasional funny meme. In fact, I think you will find a shocking lack of pizza content as a whole, but now you know the truth: Pizza is always close to mind.
