This is a family favorite for weeknight dinners, and I have been known to deliver this, warm from my oven, to neighbors and friends. It is always a hit and it’s easily adaptable, with only five ingredients. The flavor will largely depend on what kind of beer you use, so do try to pick one that you enjoy.
Ingredients
3 cups self-rising flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 can or bottle of beer (12 oz)
1/2 stick (4 tablespoons) butter, melted
Instructions
Pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees. Brush some of the melted butter in standard bread pan. In a mixing bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and brown sugar. I usually use a fork, but you could get fancy and use a whisk. Add the beer slowly. It will probably foam a bit, and that’s ok. Mix with the fork until you can’t anymore, then use your hands. Don’t overmix, as this bread can get dense. It will be sticky. Transfer a general shaggy loaf shape into the buttery bread pan. Pour the rest of the melted butter all over the top and bake for 50 minutes. I let the bread cool for at least 10 minutes before popping it out onto a cutting board. It always comes out neatly.
One variation that I adore: add 1 tsp dried dill and 1 tsp dried rosemary to the dry mix before adding the beer.
