Welcome to the first post in my Simple Summer 2025 series, a collection of easy or easy-ish activities to help your family slow down, connect, and make the most of the summer months. Whether you’re homeschooling year-round or just looking to build a little rhythm into long summer days, these ideas are designed to be low prep, affordable, and genuinely enjoyable.
Today’s idea is one of our family’s favorite ways to keep reading fresh and fun: Book Bingo.
Book Bingo is exactly what it sounds like, a bingo card filled with creative reading prompts. Kids can read books that match the prompts and mark off each square as they go. It’s a great way to encourage variety in reading choices while adding just enough structure to keep kids motivated. You can work toward five in a row, a blackout card, or just complete squares at your own pace throughout the summer.
This simple activity works for early readers, older independent readers, and even for family read-alouds. You can use the printable I created (below), or make your own version using any combination of categories that suit your kids’ interests and reading levels. My kids will be rewarded with a new book of their choice when they finish their card, and they’re so excited!
