A Simple, Do-able Winter Garden Checklist

Gardening confession: I’ve been dreaming of spring gardening and leafing through seed catalogs. (leafing…ha!) If you’re like me and love gardening, I put together a list of what we can do right now to help this be the best gardening year ever.

Remove dead or diseased plants from beds
Pull winter weeds while they’re easy
Check and refresh mulch around plants
Prune dormant trees and shrubs (skip spring bloomers)
Add compost to empty or resting beds
Cover bare soil with leaves, mulch, or cardboard
Clean and sharpen garden tools
Wash pots and seed trays
Order seeds + sketch a simple garden plan
Refill bird feeders / provide water

Nothing is blooming,
but everything is kept.
The seed dreams in its paper skin.
Roots hold the shape of summer.

  1. I started working on my garden after the rain. I’m itching to get into the ground.

About Me

Hello friend, my name is Katie and pizza is my favorite food. Yes, I’m in my thirties and yes, I have three daughters that I’m raising and homeschooling and nagging, but I think you’d be most interested to know that I would eat pizza for every meal of every day and never complain. There was a brief time (ages 8-11) when I thought that mashed potatoes was my favorite food, but I’ve since come around. That being said, I don’t only talk about pizza. Here you will find slices of homeschooling life, home decor, cooking, musings, and an occasional funny meme. In fact, I think you will find a shocking lack of pizza content as a whole, but now you know the truth: Pizza is always close to mind.
