My Top 10 Favorite Books of 2024

,

As 2024 comes to a close, I’m reflecting on all the stories that have kept me up late, made me laugh out loud, or tugged at my heartstrings. From heartwarming fiction to intriguing memoirs, this year’s reading list has been nothing short of spectacular. Here are my top ten favorite reads of the year and why I couldn’t put them down.

1. The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer

This book felt like a hug for my inner child. With its whimsical premise and tender exploration of hope and second chances, Shaffer delivers a story that’s both magical and deeply human. If you’ve ever dreamed of escaping into a fantasy world, this one’s for you.

2. Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson

Sanderson’s foray into fairy tale-inspired storytelling is as enchanting as it is adventurous. Tress is a protagonist you can’t help but root for, and the richly imagined world feels like diving into a beautifully illustrated storybook for adults. There’s a twist at the end that I absolutely did not see coming.

3. Powerless by Lauren Roberts

If you’re into swoony romance and high-stakes adventure, this book delivers both in spades. The chemistry between the characters is electric, and the plot kept me turning pages late into the night.

4. Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez

Abby Jimenez can do no wrong in my eyes. Did you know that she is a Food Network champion as well? This book is a delightful rom-com with all the summer vibes. The witty banter and heartfelt moments had me smiling from cover to cover.

5. Funny Story by Emily Henry

Henry’s knack for balancing humor with emotional depth is on full display here. The story’s laugh-out-loud moments are perfectly complemented by its poignant exploration of relationships and self-discovery.

6. Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

Who knew a story about a friendship with an octopus could be so profound? This book warmed my heart with its unique characters and unforgettable storyline. If you’re looking for something tender and out of the ordinary, add this to your list. Did I cry? Yes. But was it worth it? Also, yes.

7. By the Orchid and the Owl by Mariah Montoya

This book transported me with its lush prose and evocative storytelling. Montoya weaves a tale of love, mystery, and resilience that stayed with me long after I finished reading. MAJOR Harry Potter vibes for me with this one.

8. What I Ate in One Year by Stanley Tucci

Tucci’s memoir is as delicious as the recipes he describes. Part foodie memoir, part personal journey, it’s a celebration of life through the lens of food. Warning: you’ll want snacks nearby while reading! I actually listened to this via audiobook, which I HIGHLY recommend. I could listen to his voice all day. And I did.

9. Worst Wingman Ever by Abby Jimenez

Another hit from Abby Jimenez! This book brings humor, romance, and a whole lot of charm. The awkward, endearing main character had me rooting for their happy ending from page one.

10. The Small and the Mighty by Sharon McMahon

Sharon McMahon combines wisdom, humor, and heart in this book that celebrates the power of small, meaningful actions. It’s an inspiring reminder that even the smallest voices can make a big impact.

Whether you’re looking for a laugh, a cry, or something to make you think, I hope you find something here to add to your own list.

Have you read any of these? Or do you have a favorite book from this year that I need to add to my TBR pile? Let me know in the comments—I’m always on the hunt for my next great read!

About Me

Hello friend, my name is Katie and pizza is my favorite food. Yes, I’m in my thirties and yes, I have three daughters that I’m raising and homeschooling and nagging, but I think you’d be most interested to know that I would eat pizza for every meal of every day and never complain. There was a brief time (ages 8-11) when I thought that mashed potatoes was my favorite food, but I’ve since come around. That being said, I don’t only talk about pizza. Here you will find slices of homeschooling life, home decor, cooking, musings, and an occasional funny meme. In fact, I think you will find a shocking lack of pizza content as a whole, but now you know the truth: Pizza is always close to mind.
